Prof. Gregory Shaffer

Gregory Shaffer is Scott K. Ginsburg Professor of International Law at Georgetown University Law Center and is the immediate past President of the American Society of International Law. He is the author of over 120 articles and book chapters, one of which won the inaugural John Jackson Prize in international economic law. He is also the author of twelve books, including his newest books The Rule of Law under Pressure: A Transnational Challenge (with CUP) and Advanced Introduction for International Economic Law (Elgar). His book Emerging Powers and the World Trade System: The Past and Future of International Economic Law won the 2022 Chadwick F. Alger Prize of the International Studies Association. Elgar will publish his book Advanced Introduction to International Economic Law, with Michael Waibel, this coming January. Professor Shaffer has served on the board of a dozen journals, including the American Journal of International Law and the Journal of International Economic Law. He also serves as co-editor of the book series Studies in International Trade and Investment Law published by Bloomsbury/Hart, which awards a book prize at SIEL at each of our biennial meetings.
