Dr Tanjina Sharmin

Tanjina has joined the Monash Law Faculty as a full-time lecturer in 2019. Her previous teaching experience included working as a full-time Lecturer at a premier Bangladeshi Law School for three and a half years. During this time, she led a research project for the United Nations Development Programme, which produced a research report proposing reforms to the criminal justice sector in Bangladesh. Before joining academia, Tanjina practiced law in a foreign jurisdiction.
Tanjina completed an LLM, specialising in Commercial Laws at the University of Cambridge, and holds another LLM, as well as an LLB, from the University of Dhaka. Tanjina is also a former Commonwealth Scholar. Her Ph.D. at Monash was in International Economic Law.
Tanjina teaches Law of Contract and Corporations Law at Monash. From 2024, she is serving the role of Contract A course co-ordinator at Monash. In 2024, she has achieved a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in recognition of her attainment against the UK Professional Standards Framework for teaching and learning support in higher education.
Tanjina’s research interests include International Economic Law, Investor-State Dispute Resolution, Public International Law, and Commercial Laws. She has published internationally on these topics. She is a member of Centre for Commercial Law and Regulatory Studies (CLARS) at the Monash Faculty of Law. Through CLARS, Tanjina has recently been involved in a major collaborative research project between Monash University and the Malaysian government focused on modernising Malaysia’s contract law framework. She is also currently researching on the regulatory space of the host-states in post-COVID-19 international investment treaties.
