Alia Yasmin Jawad

Alia Yasmin Jawad is a PhD candidate at Panteion University in Athens, Greece, within the Department of International and European Studies. Her doctoral research focuses on the European Union’s application of international legal norms, offering a comparative analysis of its responses to Ukraine and Gaza. Her work examines questions of legal consistency and selectivity, with particular attention to how geopolitical considerations shape the interpretation and application of international law. She holds a BA in International Relations from George Mason University and an MA in Comparative Politics from University of Bucharest. She previously worked as an analyst, research associate, and executive coordinator at the Middle East Institute Switzerland, contributing to research on geopolitical and legal developments in the MENA region and beyond. Alongside her doctoral research, she teaches BA and MA-level lectures on EU foreign policy as well as laws and policies on human rights and minorities. She also works as an online freelance language tutor, teaching Romanian and English. Her broader research interests include international law, geopolitics and conflict resolution, critical legal studies, and the role of legal frameworks in structuring global power relations.
